Trail was fine using our spikes to the summit and back. One issue was a huge area of thick ice around 2 miles up Ammo that was difficult climbing up and on our descent, I lost control in the same spot. Too steep and thick to really pound my spikes in for grip. There was also a couple ahead of us who opted to butt sled in every spot possible that trashed the trail. We were able to pass them and it was easier hiking down after that.
*Not trying to create controversy about butt sledding - I too succumb to the temptation when it's perfect but I usually wait until there's a deeper base on trails. |
