Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: 3 cars at Crawford Depot at start, 30 upon return. I really get a kick out of people who just decide to park on the shoulder behind cars parked at the depot, forcing them to drive about 50 feet to snake/slide their way out. No surprise with the red letter plates.

Comments
Comments: A FINE day was had in the forest today. Despite the freezing rain, it was type 1 fun. Trails are one would summize are - garbage. I would reccomend anyone heading out, not just this hiker per say, but if yours hass a similar gradient in spots or known to be wet, bring ACTUAL crampons (hillsound trail crampons are NOT what I am implying) in the next few days. You will very likely need them. It's going to freeze to bullet and there will be large sections of ice. A-Z to Avalon junction early this morning where still hard packed with minor rototilling. Its a lot of slush and running water to Avalon Spur, from there the trail is less consolidated. Did some minor rototilling but it was still pretty supportive. I was glad I ascended this way because that looks like a hospital visit on a descent right now. Nothing of note to Field above the Avalon Spur aside from more or less of the same partially consolidated rototill, slush, and what's going to be absolute bullet ice after this freeze. Field to Tom Spur along the Willey Range was its usual unconsolidated, but again, minor rototilling and supportive mixed with large sections of slush. I made it from Field to the spur in less 15 minutes, its lightning fast. Tom Spur was a repeat, but majorly supportive and less slush. A-Z back down to the junction was rock solid and actually gave me multiple opportunities to work on some mountaineering footwork as a refresher. Redline Guiding would be proud! Nice to start the year off right with some bacon, some leftover filet from bogboy, a shot of whiskey from scottb and oatmeal cookies from Nordic_Gal's mum on the summit of Tom for my 21st Grid Out (field being 20). Be safe out there in the next few days!
