The Lincoln Woods trail is very well packed as expected. It wasn't overly slippery so I didn't bother with traction. The Wilderness Trail was well packed. There are several blowdowns but easy to get around or step over.
Lower Bondcliff had 2-3 blowdowns. Easy to get around. There are still several mud holes from areas where the ground hasn't frozen and water has been seeping. These are easily avoidable as well. The first two water crossings are not snowbridged yet. Crossings above that are no longer flowing. I put on light traction about halfway up the Bondcliff Trail as conditions changed slightly from hard packed to soft packed. Still not deep enough here to warrant snowshoes. No need for snowshoes across the ridge as there is still a lot of rock sticking up.
After the ridge to the summit of West Bond snowshoes may or may not be helpful. It is borderline right now. I brought snowshoes with me but didn't quite find the need to put them on. I almost did though so it is definitely time to start carrying them as they will be needed soon. Returned over the same route. Great hike on the last day of the year. |
