Comments: A FINE day was had in the forest to end 2021. Trails are in superb speedway shape. Especially with the rain and hard freeze we are likely to get, they should be even better early next week. Minimal depth, ranging from 4-8" on the trail to some spots on Engine Hill that are less than 2". On the topic of Engine Hill, it is gratuitously broken out in a wildly circuitously fashion (Scrabble word care of twinkletoes). It will get you there, but it's one of the worst versions I've ever seen. It would need to be rebroken out properly, it goes through the initial glade and then drops to around 3150, and then serpentines and makes multiple hairpins on a lovely oddysey through the woods. It was well packed and neither of us cared to spend the energy to break it out proper. It's current state more or less negates even utilizing it for any benefit aside from skipping two water crossings. It enters the Isolation trail around 3100. The bypass is well defined to skip crossings 3&4, and crossing 5 is easy. Surpsingly great day out there. No wind. Presi's in and out of the clouds. Ran into hiking royaltly, twinkletoes, along Iso Trail. We all did a shot at the summit. Did note snowshoe tracks along Iso Express, but I have no idea where he entered or exited Isolation Trail. No evidence of his tracks, and as mentioned earlier, Engine Hill enters at 3100 on Iso and there are no tracks going towards the shelter. Happy new year!
