Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: This was my first time parking at the “Seven Dwarfs” Motel and they were so incredibly nice! I called yesterday and the owner told me that I could leave the payment in an envon my windshield or in the mailbox at their door. Their lot holds probably 6 cars and there was 1 car when I arrived and 2 additional cars when I returned. A prior trail report indicated that the lot was not plowed; it is plowed but not as close to the asphalt as the road is! There was some snow overnight and my Subaru had no troubles.

Comments
Comments: I’ve hiked the Fire Warden’s Trail before but I hadn’t previously hiked from the Seven Dwarf’s Motel. It was easy to follow the bootprints of others and I was happy that there was a bridge over the Little River (and therefore no water crossings). I barebooted up Little River Road and put on snowshoes at the bridge. Snowshoes were really helpful for the “bushwhack” up to Haystack Road (it’s hard to call it a bushwhack when it’s so easy to follow and, at one point, has a sign that says “Trail!!”). Haystack Road has boot prints and ski tracks and snowmobile tracks and even some fat tire bike tracks … snowshoes were super helpful here as well. The North Twin Trail from the trailhead parking lot to the start of the Fire Warden’s Trail is well packed out and can be bare booted but I was too lazy to take off my snowshoes so kept them on. It’s clear that no one is attempting the first water crossing for the Twins, by the way.
The Fire Warden’s Trail has some old tracks but had new or drifted snow. 2-4” over the first mile, and 4-6” and more for the second mile. It was a lot more work to break it out than I had expected, LOL! When I stumbled into the clearing with the summit cairn, I met four super nice gentlemen from RI. They had come up Lend A Hand (in snowshoes) and headed down the Fire Warden’s Trail behind me. Between them and me, we made a super nice snowshoe track! I kept my snowshoes on until the bridge and then barebooted back to my car.
