Comments
Comments: Snowshoes got a free ride; sunny skies in the morning and the trail was packed; one hiker used snowshoes all the way; one used spikes; two barebooted up (including me); put on spikes on the ridge to have some traction in the steep sections between Flume and Liberty; between the two summits, trail was well packed except for one section--that was so brief that it didn't make sense to put on snowshoes; all hikers I spoke with only hiked Flume and Liberty; connection to northern part of ridge not freshly broken out; kept spikes on for the descend; many ice patches had become visible, with 10+ hikers having ascended; spikes gave the grip/traction I was looking for; by the time I had descended back to Flume slide juncture, that trail had fresh snowshoe tracks
Kyle and Chris, nice to meet you and wishing continued fun on your 48er hikes! Also met a father-son duo on the bike path--they were visiting from their home near Springer Mountain in Georgia and wanted to step on the AT :) Always great that one can find the white blazes along the east coast.
