Trails
Trails: Sandwich Mountain Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, December 28, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The upper parking lot was a snowy mess with at least 3" of slushy snow, and was completely full when I arrived around 12:45pm. I parked lower down, making sure I wouldn't be in the way of people leaving or anyone who might need to access the gated area.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Wet/Slippery Rock
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Drakes Brook at the start was tricky. Snow and ice has formed, but with the freeze-thaw conditions, it's unstable, so finding the rock underneath is crucial. I managed to dunk my foot going across in both directions, but it was warm enough I didn't care too much.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No blowdowns, clear sailing

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There was a Leki pole by the trailhead sign.

Comments
Comments: The trail was pretty well packed down today; it looked like Drakes Brook Trail was packed down too. I wouldn't consider the trails fully packed out, but they were in really good condition. I used spikes door to door and was happy with that. Close to the summit, it looked like perhaps 1-2 people had hiked up from Smarts Brook, though not since the last 1-2" snowfall.
