It was a beautiful winter day. Winds were low (5mph), sun was out, and winter has finally arrived! We saw a handful of people. The snow isn't quite high enough for snowshoes, so we hiked the whole thing in our kahtoola microspikes. There were a few short areas where the drifts were higher and snow shoes would have been nice, but not necessary. We could still feel the ice under the snow, and ran into a few slippery spots as well. It was chilly up in the alpine zone, but per usual, a beautiful summit and a stunning halo ring around the sun. I always find this hike to be a moderate, steady workout, and today was no different. All in all, it was a great day on Eisenhower. |
