The latest snows are starting to help! While there are still some iceberg tips of rocks sticking through, the trail was snow covered the entire way with some good depth at higher elevations. We bedded the trail with another guy on the way up and on the way down it was very pleasant. Bareboot all the way up and put crampons on for the descent off Garfield (probably could have used them going up as well). Took them off somewhere along the switchbacks, no traction was needed after the junction. Neither direction on the ridge was broken in - if you are headed east or west, recommend snowshoes. Wind chill was gnarly and wasn't supportive of too much summit time. Another W48 down. |
