Comments
Comments: Bright day with little wind for these two today. Ammo/Jewell below treeline had packed snow over ice, with unconsolidated snow of 4-8 inches. Borderline snowshoes but a bit boney for our taste. They went for a ride and we used microspikes the whole hike. above treeline on ammo could be dealt with using crampons for some of the steeper sections, but traction was solid just with pretty beat spikes. Above treeline from lakes to monroe to wash to jewell, rock spikes and gaiters are ideal. Even with some brief heavy drifts up to the knee or so, mostly crusty rocks up there. Saw 5 or so hikers out today. bring snowshoes after the next storm for sure
