Out and back to Jackson this morning. second car upon arrival, 15 at return. 8-9 inches at home 30 miles to the west, 4 inches or so at Crawford Notch from the Sat "storm." An inch or so of light powder added on top overnight. 4 degree start at 08:00 made for good footing and I barebooted with no issues for the first mile, switching to Hillsounds and they stayed on for the duration. Left the snowshoes in the jeep and that was good as no conditions presented a need for them. I was worried about the ice under the snow, but both up and down were fine with some care and caution--it just wasn't that slippery. It's still a bumpy, bony path and hopefully winter will stick around and smooth it out. The forest was beautiful and the views on top were of the 100 mile quality. |
