Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at the jct of Carr Ridge Rd with River Rd in Pittsburgh. The road is wide so I was able to pull to the side of it and still leave plenty of rooms for cars to get by. The road in, like most roads in Pittsburgh off of Rt 3 yesterday, was a mix of ice and dirt. My FWD car did just fine.

Comments
Comments: Day 47, Peak 45. 3rd and final hike of the day in Pittsburgh. Very windy and temps in the mid-high 30s.

I threw my spikes on immediately to begin walking Carr Ridge Rd. Just before a gate, Carr Ridge Rd turns right. There was another, much more overgrown road shortly before this, that I figured marked the turn in Gaia but I quickly realized my error. A short ways after this right hand turn, spikes could have been taken off but I was stubborn and left mine on until finally giving in and taking them off. The road contours/ascends gently. Just before 1800ft, I bore left onto Luckys Way around a gate and continued about another 1/4mi to where I started my bushwhack at about 1875ft. I took a bearing and headed NE to the summit ridge, intersecting many old roads along the way. The ascent wasn’t steep until just below the ridge. To the left (north) of me I noted some small cliffs. Once on the ridge I headed north to the high point for almost 0.1mi and found the jar.

I signed in, took a bearing, and down I went. This time I stuck a little further north of the way I came in, on the opposite side of the cliffs. I got back to the road (Luckys Way on Gaia) in about 5min. Very short bushwhack that’s about 0.25mi from the road and is in open woods. Coming back down, I didn’t put my spikes back on until I needed them at about 0.1mi from the right hand turn mentioned on my way in. Though the road was icy at first, there was no snow on the bushwhack. I’m sure that’s changed since though.

The hike was about 4.5mi with roughly 600ft of gain. The hike took me 1hr45min. 318 more days and 320 more peaks to go…
