Mt Tecumseh trail up, sossman connecter,, ski trail down
An hour south, there was 8 inches of snow so I went with snowshoes. But Waterville valley must have only gotten 3 to 4 inches. The trail in packed out and icy under to snow in places. Traction is a must. About half the hikers I passed had on snowshoes and half did not. I kept mine on to make tecumsehs 5 miles feel like a real workout. Or maybe I kept them on to put myself through torture. The Sossman trail was so lovely and not a soul in sight. Out on the ski trail, there was foot deep drifts and thick ice under the soft snow. Basically I was skiing unintentionally in my snowshoes all the way down the trail. The ski trail down from the summit was not groomed and had zero skiers today. |
