I'm posting this purely for posterity's sake, as the conditions will no doubt be quite different soon with all the snow coming. However, as it was, the trails were dry and clear with only a few icy rocks, none of which were too difficult to get past.
To get to Reed Road Trail, just continue up the road and follow the arrows, and it will first narrow to a footpath and then enter the woods. Once it enters the woods, it uses a series of 13 switchbacks (I counted) to reach the top of the ridge and Dave Roberts Quarry Trail. Due to the switchbacks, grades are easy to moderate the whole way - there's nothing difficult about this trail.
Dave Roberts Quarry Trail is a bit more rugged, with a very steep pitch heading up to East Quarry. The trail over to West Quarry alternates between smooth and rocky. Make sure to take the short herd path to the true summit of West Quarry, marked with a cairn - the place where the sign is isn't actually the summit.
This was a nice quick hike, and I'm glad we got it in before the snow comes. |
