Comments
Comments: My first time up McCrillis Trail to Whiteface. I searched for recent posts for this trail, but didn't find any, so here you go. It looks like it doesn't get a lot of use, and the crusty old snow near the ledges had one other set of footprints. Trail is fairly easy to follow even with a layer of leaves on the mostly bare ground, and occasional faded yellow blazes help. Some ice at the beginning of the Flat Mtn Pond Trail gives way to gravel, then dry leaves. Snow and ice on McCrillis trail didn't start until 2500' and was intermittent. Spikes were on and off 3 times on the way up. I put them on above 3500' and they stayed on all the way up Rollins to the summit.

Looking for a less icy route to Whiteface, this one fit the bill. It's 10.5 miles R/T but first and last 2 miles are flat and fast. Possible to do a loop with Blueberry Ledge and the similarly named McCrillis Path, but I was happy to go up and back and finish by 3PM.

Wildlife: 3 Boreal Chickadees on McCrillis in the spruce forest where the trail is steep.
