Zealand Rd is bare and ice free. Used "rock spikes" from just after Hale Brook trailhead to summit and back but some people you may prefer newer sharp spikes for the middle section. The first part up to the first brook crossing could probably be bare-booted if you are careful to avoid ice patches. The section between the two brook crossings has the most ice and if you don't have sharp spikes you need to step carefully to avoid the black ice but after the second crossing it becomes more hard packed snow and less ice making the going a little faster. Not enough snow to consider using snowshoes. |
