Comments
Comments: It seems that Saturday's storm didn't deposit any snow on Lafayette at any elevation. Up to treeline trail was mostly a mixture of very hard packed snow and blue ice with some rocks sticking through, and a few inches of crusty snow in the surrounding woods. Above treeline was mostly bare, but on the trail there were enough snow and ice patches mixed in with the rocks to make it worthwhile to just leave traction on (and hope they don't get too beat up on the rocks). Overall microspikes the entire way were sufficient, though there were a few steep and icy spots that were tricky. Carried snowshoes, but never even came close to using them. Still a good hike even if surface conditions were a little frustrating.
