Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Surprisingly, the crossing of the flume was easy. There’s enough of an ice build up that it was one step for me and I’m short. All other crossings (including on the pond spur) were fine.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There’s a blowdown on Kedron Flume that could use some attention in the spring. It’s not too far in. There’s also a relatively fresh blowdown on the Ethan Pond Trail about a third of a mile past Willey Range headed toward the pond. As other posters mentioned, the sign at the intersection of Kedron Flume and Ethan Pond is slightly damaged.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There’s a steep stretch on Kedron Flume that is sheer ice (almost worthy of full crampons) and there’s not really a super easy way around it. Not bad for humans with artificial traction, but our dog did not like it one bit and we had to help her up it. Luckily we did not come down that way. Until there’s snow to cover the ice, I would not recommend this for dogs.

Comments
Comments: See the dog-related note above. There’s one spot just past the flume crossing that almost warranted full crampons.

Lots of running water and thin, breakable ice in the trail between Willey Range and the pond.

Yes, there actually was a bit of monorail on Kedron Flume. It was stable.

Had planned to wander around in the Pemi, but the dog got really cold when we stopped for lunch due to the strong wind coming off the pond, so we decided to do Ripley Falls instead because the ridge kept the wind at bay over there.
