 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Other reports have indicated that they parked by the road 0.8mi in. I didn’t find pull off there so I kept driving and parked where another truck was by the gate that leads to the road people use to access Teapot Mtn. Meriden Hill Rd was plowed but still had some snow/ice/slush if I remember correctly. My FWD car did okay though I exercised some caution. I was a little concerned about giving the other car there enough room to get out, not block the gate, and be able to get our myself, but it worked out just fine. The truck was still there when I left shortly past 4pm. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There was caution tape around what looked like an old bridge at the start of one of the trail partway up presumably because it was dilapidated and so that snowmobiles and ATVs wouldn’t use it. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
I’d be careful of snowmobiles and such this time of year but I don’t see why not otherwise |

Day 33, Peak 31. 2nd hike of the day after Potato Hill.
From my parking spot, I walked south on Meriden Hill Road for just over 0.1mi, then took a left up an untraveled road. I walked this for 0.4-0.5mi. I then bore left onto a more overgrown road and stayed on that for about the same distance. The grades on each varied a bit, sometimes contouring, sometimes slabbing, and, before the end of the second one, more steeply up a drainage, ending just before reaching a col between Tinkerville Peak and a sub peak of Lightning Mtn.
I took a right just before this col onto another road which soon led to a snowmobile/ATV road that had been travelled. I stayed on this basically to the summit. It ascended the northeastern summit ridge and had nice views through the trees of the setting sun :) I was tempted to turn off the old road and whack left into the woods thinking that I was at the high point, but I stuck to the road longer which was the right choice. I finally took a left and walked through a wee bit of woods to the summit where the road ends (it curves around to it) where there’s a picnic table and some benches not far off. Also a snowmobile or ATV map. The summit jar is in the woods where the ground is slightly higher. This works since it’s also hidden. I signed in and returned the way I came up.
332 more days and 334 more peaks to go… |
