 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked somewhere roughly around 2/3mi info Christie Rd from Bog Rd in North Stratford. If you have Gaia, it shows a road connecting to Christie Rd to Tetu Rd. I parked in a pullout just beyond that road. My original plan was to park on Tetu Rd but that road appears steep based on contour lines and didn’t appear to be plowed or well travelled so I didn’t dare go a down it. Driving my FWD on Christie Rd and others was doable though I exercised caution as there some snow/slush on them. |

This was Day 33, Peak 30. 1st hike of the day. Got a late start at about 11:15am. Very windy and in the 20s but at least the sun was out!
From my parking spot at a pullout on the right side of the road, I walked back down the road a very short distance to the road shown on Gaia that connects Christie Rd to Tetu Rd (not for cars as it’s gated). I walked past the gate and the road forks (also shown on Gaia). I took the left fork which took me into a large clearing. The road continued gently uphill with nice views of Potato Hill in front of you and the western Nash Stream peaks behind you. The road headed SE and ended at 1400ft maybe around 2/3mi from my car. From here, I continued on a southeast bearing to the peak (which I could still see most of the way) but now through whippy young growth. There were some prickers mixed in at first too but you got out of them pretty quickly and I mostly avoided them on my way down.
The whippy young growth lasted for maybe 1/2mi to 1700ft where it stopped and you entered a more mature hardwood forest. The grade only in the young growth forest was easy-moderate; only slightly more than the very gentle road walk in. I continued on a SE bearing toward the summit (to be more exact, my track began more S, then slowly transitioned more easterly throughout my ascent) through good woods at a moderate-steep grade generally. The high point is on the Far East end of the summit plateau. Not hard to find the jar. I signed in and returned in my tracks. There were some animal tracks around the summit. I of course mistook them for my own once and got pulled of course briefly 😂
There was 2-3in of snow throughout the hike. On my way out the road, I noticed a dilapidated shed and outhouse looking thing on my right. I did wonder if this was private property. No signs though. The last person to sign in before me was the landowner; he didn’t mention anything about access and I thanked him for allowing it :)
332 more days and 335 more peaks to go. |
