The craziest part of this whole hike was that on a sunny SATURDAY in the Whites, we did not see another soul from around 9:30am when we parked the car until around 1pm when we finished. This is a wonderful peak and it felt like a hidden gem since we didn't have to share it with anyone. The trail is in good shape right now; there isn't nearly enough snow to require snowshoes so I was glad I left those in the car. We barebooted the entire way up with little trouble, although some of the steeper sections were a little more difficult without spikes. Watch out for some very slippery ice near the small water crossings. Put on our microspikes after sitting at the summit for a bit, and I would definitely recommend them going down. I'm sure we could have managed without them (there are some dry patches of trail with no snow) but the spikes definitely made us faster and felt much safer than descending in bare boots. |
