Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest to grid out Whiteface and The Child of the Bear, Passaconaway (11th and 12th, respectively). Spikes car to car. Trails are in superb highway shape end to end. I did have snowshoes with me just to get used to the weight, there was at no point in which I needed them. I was going to do some off roading with them but there is only about 6-8" base, so I scrapped this idea. Saw several familiar faces out today. I was eternally grateful for a mom & waist high shredder who proudly exclaimed he was going for his "First summit of his fourth Whiteface!" I asked if he had done the one in New York, too, and he beamed. I was actually unable to find passage on the second ledge due to my inability to contort as cirque de soliel dancer, and she graciously threw out a hand and pulled me up so I could get a hand hold. All while the little guy is up heel hooking the next ledge... ha! Had a shot of skrewball at the true wooded summit of Whiteface. I am not sure if I was on the Rollin's Trail or at New England Dragway, because I am pretty sure there was a rooster tail of snow and sparks behind me - I made it to Dicey's in 45 minutes. When I said highway, I mean it! That ended quickly on the gentle ascent to Passaconaway. It get's a little longer each time you do it, and the 12th time is absolutely the longest. The way out on Dicey's was about as nice as it could have been, aside from deep winter buttsledding. These conditions will change overnight, but if you can teleport, and get some of the good stuff from Alabama Dave at the picnic table behind Price Chopper, you got this.
