Cannon Mtn Trail

approx. 1in of fresh snow fell overnight, covering up the ice along the trail nicely; I put on spikes at some point during the ascent; somewhere in the lower half of the trail and kept them on til the end; the fresh snow really helped with the trail being less slippery; I was the first one passed the vista point and the 'trail breaking' really was not breaking; 1in or so of powder; it was easy to walk through; carefully finding footing in the few rocky sections, but otherwise no problem; the steps to the tower are the 'fun part'--snow/ice frozen on them; as one other trail report said, "whee" as you glide them back down :) ; met 9 hikers total on the descend; still enough snow on the slabs that I could easily get down; several of us were carrying crampons in case there wouldn't be much snow on the ice and spikes would't be enough; no need to carry snowshoes yet
while there were only peekaboo views this morning, there was no wind and the trail was a gorgeous snowy winter wonderland
