Comments
Comments: Only three cars in the lot when I started hiking at 7:50AM, and seven cars in the lot on my return at 1:35. Saw only four other people on the trail the whole day--a nice change from the alpine zone trashing crowds mobbing the Ridge in the warmer months. The snowshoes stayed in the car, and I wore beater HH spikes for the whole hike--conditions were excellent for spikes, except for some boniness above treeline, and some unpacked, knee deep snow coming down the laFayette cone. I'm glad I did the loop counterclockwise, as wading thru the unpacked snow going up would have been quite eneergy sappping, whereas going down it was just an annyance. And it would not have made any sense to carry snowshoes for the short stretch that they might have been of use. It was full winter conditions today, wahoo.
