Comments: Chilly day on the ridge! Up falling waters and down Old bridle. There were two ice climbers headed up stream then two other chaps that headed in just before me. We ended up hiking together the rest of the day (shout out to Tommy & Bobby!)

There was slight snowpack right from the parking lot, so I opted to throw on the spikes from the comfort of my car rather than the side of the trail further in.

Snow depth was just enough to cover most of the roots & rocks, however still not enough for snow shoes. River crossings were easy rock hops. Once above the last of the falls and into the switchbacks, the depth increased to 6" or more. Snow shoes would have been nice in a few sections, but not worth the constant stopping to switch.

Once on the ridge it was crusty and snow-blown- micros were optimal. The wind was whipping and bitter cold. wind speed measured 34mph from the side of Lincoln, but there were definitely stronger gusts at times.
There was a brief lull on top of Lincoln to snap some pictures but it started back up again on the way to Lafayette. Views were limitless... what a clear day!

Other than the 3 of us, the ridge was eerily empty. Didn't see anyone headed up until we were almost down to the hut.

Great day on the ridge! Bring all your gear- winter has arrived up high!
