Comments
Comments: Another one of those fall down low, messy transition to winter trail days. The weather was full on winter as that NW wind was mean and those single digit summit windchills mighta had something to do with not seeing a single person for the second straight day on a 4k peak. Barebooted to about 2500' on the way up where I put on the spikes, the ice froze a bit over the course of the day so kept them on until about 2000' on the descent. Lots of blue ice, some of it breakable with running water underneath down low from 2000-2500' where it transitions over to snow and goes from a trace-1" here to 2-3" for most of the way up Starr King and increases to about 4-6" on the summit of Waumbek.
