Comments
Comments: Well this was a big day with new trails. We wanted to get here before the nash stream rd was closed and we made it! It looked like a fresh coating of snow had hit the trails from the night before. The crossings on pond brook falls trail had a log with chicken wire on it but it was pulled off the side maybe for the winter year/spring time but we made it across ok. There was some mud that ate our boots a few times and we were happy to have our winter boots on. We carried the spikes all day without needing them. Once we got to the camp on trio trail we took a snack break here. It was very odd to see only 1 tent platform and for it to be in the middle of the trail but hey at least there was one. Once on the percy loop trail we followed some footprints up but saw no one all day. Heading off the percy's backside on old summer camp trail it was very nice woods but some ledges that took some more time to get down. It was interesting to see what woods road we would pop out onto and go back into the woods to find another. Once we got to victor head trail we dumped our packs and headed up the steep trail. We saw both view points and could see the rain heading our way. We then headed down and made the mental note that we would be back to grab the other trails to lake Christine another day. Once we made it to bald mountain notch trail, we kept a lookout for the herd path we had heard about. We found it and dumped packs again and headed up into the woods. I was shocked at how much this herd path was. Once at the top there were some ledges with more rain looking closer. There were some other herd paths leading in other directions which I thought would connect but we did not have time to explore with the early sunset. We whacked up the high point and retraced our steps. Once off the mountain it was a very cruisy kind of trail out. Before we got out though we could smell and see the fresh logging operation that we had to cross over at least 2 times before getting back to nice snowmobile/logging roads before we got back to the car. Once we did it fully started to rain! Another rain stop missed that we were thankfully in the car for. Nice day out on the Cohos Trail.
