Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Gate to South Pond Rec Area was still open. Road is paved all the way to the parking lot. Very large lot with plenty of parking spaces. Outhouses were still unlocked. We were the only car on the lot at 9:30am, and only 2 additional cars upon our return in the afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The bigger water crossing took us a little time to figure out the best way across on the ascent. Many rocks were submerged under water. We walked upstream a little ways thinking we could find a better way, but ended up coming back to cross right where the trail crosses. There are a couple of other minor crossings that were easy to rock hop.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some sections of the trail are overgrown and the trail becomes quite narrow. The tree limbs are growing into the trail, so any snow on the limbs ended up coming off on us. Fresh blazes would be helpful in some spots. One rocky section was a little hard to tell where the trail went, but we saw orange flagging tape and followed that to stay on the trail.

Comments
Comments: Excellent day out on the trail today. Trailhead starts just past all of the picnic tables along the beach area. Trail had a light dusting of snow in the morning at lower elevations. About an inch or so of snow up higher.

Sections of the trail had standing water and lots of mud that were hard to avoid. We ended up wearing winter hiking boots and gaiters, and were thankful we did.

Views from the ledges were gorgeous! We found 3 different viewpoints and took a little time to enjoy them all. Great views of the Presidentials!
