Comments
Comments: AMC Winter Hiking Series, 1st hike. 3 Groups finished group sessions on Saturday and went up to Mt Tom on Sunday. Saturday night storm left 2" new snow at trailhead and the lower Avalon trail mostly wet with melting snow. Changed to micro spikes along the A-Z trail and about Elev 2600 the wet snow/slushy mix turned to all firmer snow. Higher elevations probably picked up 4-6inches of snow. Good day for a hike and breaking in to further hikes and snow. All people in the groups could see what we need to do, after a full day of instructions/discussions, to become competent winter hikers. The NH team leaders did a great job.
