| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Gates were open, but don't count on it at this point. Driving past, the gates for the Twins, and the Galehead/Garfield loop road were all open. But again, we're close to snow season, so be mindful that the gates might close any day now. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Water crossings that aren't bridged are trivial. Bridged ones? They're in superlative shape. Bog Bridges up on the Twinway are actively seeing renovations. They're very sturdy.
One note: the weather is in that state where you might think a rock is wet. Think instead that it's glaze ice until proven otherwise. Unfortunately, it's still too thin for MicroSpikes to make a huge difference. 99.99% of the trail is dry anyway, so this isn't much of a problem if you're careful. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Everything is in amazing shape. Even the West Bond spur. Wow, those trails are some of the nicest in the Whites. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw two pups on the trail, both living their best lives. |

| Comments: |
I went up expecting I'd just get Zealand. Weather and trail conditions conspired against me, and so I went out further and snagged West Bond. What can I say, other than when it's sunny and warm, your feet ache a little less and the miles become a tad easier.
