The three of us had a good hike up and over Noon, out and back to Jennings Peak and then Sandwich Dome. We headed down Smarts Brook until about where the trail takes that hard left and then slabbed over through blowdowns and a small brook to reach the mostly open col between Jennings Peak and Sachem Peak. Nice whack to the open summit slabs on Sachem Peak. We did the tricky descent off the ridge to the south where it is steep and not much to hang on to, wouldn't try doing that on a wet or icy day. Super views! Then we whacked stragiht back to the Smarts Brook Trail. We decided to take the more scenic route back to the trailhead via the XC ski Trails. Lots of people hiking these smaller loops. |
