Beautiful day for this loop hike… I went up the holt trail…. Start of it is pretty easy, a lot of leaf cover on the trail but I didn’t have to much trouble following. Then once I hit the spruce line it starts to rock and roll. A little ice but nothing I couldn’t get around… a few spots were dicey but with careful foot placement I was around it no problem… the scramble up is a lot of fun…. Vibram soles on my hoka’s really gripped very well. As I got closer to the summit the ice got to be a little more… never did I think I would have to turn around but my thought was I may have to zig zag a little to avoid the ice…. That’s all it took, I was at the summit. That was fun! Probably not to many days left before the ice gets to be more and wouldn’t recommend that trail without traction or avoiding it all together until late spring lol. Beautiful day at the summit. Visibility was incredible, so many mountains you can see from this summit. 32 degrees, wind chill 20, 15 mph max wind speed. Warmer because of the sun for sure. Pleasant hike over to Firescrew… 1 very icy spot going down Manning trail that requires avoiding by swinging to the left over roots to get down…. Clear sailing back to the car after that…. ✌🻠|
