 | Water Crossing Notes: |
With no rain over the last week, Little River was still up a bit. We used the herd path to bypass the first two crossings of (does anyone actually do all three crossings?). Spikes, poles, and waterproof boots were essential at the third crossing in the morning on icy/submerged rocks with little issue (we encountered several people that were not prepared for the crossing who turned back). The return trip in the afternoon was easier as the ice had melted off. Several other smaller crossings were easy hops. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Noted newer blazes on North Twin Trail, starting around the first river crossing. No blowdowns, but this trail is suffering from continuous extensive erosion from the third river crossing all the way up to the first viewpoint -- quite a long distance. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Depends on the dog I guess. We saw one dog who wasn't having the river crossing at all (turned back), and another lovable Golden shortly before the summit who was having a blast. |

A gorgeous bluebird day to hike this peak; I hadn't been here in nearly a decade.
Conditions were quite a mix -- mainly dry frozen ground in the morning until the last river crossing, where a dusting of snow started. This continued all the way up but never amounted to more than 1/4 in. Higher up in the steeps below the summit there were two icy stretches forming; we put spikes on here for peace of mind but took them off again once past them. Things were wetter and muddier on the descent with warming temps melting the snow and ice. This freeze/thaw cycle will continue to create icy conditions.
Beautiful blue skies on top with excellent views, no clouds, and just a whisper of wind. Chilly, but not overly cold. Nice to run into Tom and Suzanne up there. |
