Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, October 17, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: we were the 2nd car parked on the kanc in the AM, about 10 in the afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: there were at least six opportunities to get my feet wet, but I managed to rock hop all of them.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: overall in good shape. however the trees/tree roots are taking a beat down in the areas where folks are bypassing the trickiest slabs and boulders. tongue in cheek, I think that the 'you are now entering a wilderness area' signs should be written as 'wilderness area begins...trail maintenance ends. blazing is super faint and at this time of year when the leaves fill in the foot bed, vigilance is necessary.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I encountered a few well-behaved puppers.
Bugs
Bugs: none
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: on the way out in the last 1.5 mile I noticed black electrical tape on branches and on trees in various spots, that I'm pretty sure wasn't there in the morning. I looked around to see if there was some reason for it and seeing none, I pulled it off in about a half dozen places. black seems a strange color to use for a breadcrumb trail....

Comments
Comments: any day in the woods is a great day, right? it would've been better for me if I hadn't been so optimistic about the weather. at this stage, I feel kinda dumb for not being better prepared for the cold and wetness. On the hike up, I was fine in my shorts and long sleeved shirt, but as I climbed higher and moved slower and had to use my hands more, I got cold and damp. the trail had running water in spots and my feet were wet too. The plan was to get both N & M Tri, but as soon as I hit North, I was done. I'm not sure I've turned around faster. Threw on a puffy and a hat and my gloves, but after two minutes gloves were soaked. kept the jacket on all the way back to car and over to Oliverian Brook TH to pick up my partner who gridded N & M Tri, Whiteface, & Passaconaway all in record time.

ps: when descending, there should be a sign at the junction of the slide trail and PBB. In my cold delirium, I wasn't 100% sure which way to go. I chose correctly.
