Decided not to try Hogan Road, as it is supposed to be nasty and did the longer walk from route 16. The hike starts by crossing a metal footbridge across the Androscoggin and then doing a 1.25 mile road walk. The road walk was fairly well marked and easy to follow. Did encounter two ATV riders speeding along and kicking up dust. The road walk took 20-25 minutes each way. Trail itself was in good condition. It was dry down low with three steep sections and fairly steep and rocky in the upper half. There were two muddy sections that were easily rock hopped, but rest of the trail was dry. Nice views from the ledges. Stopped at Mascot Pond on the way back. That was a nice pond with great views of Mad-Ad and some cliffs and a slide off Mt. Hayes. Well worth the 5 or 6 minute side trail walk. |
