Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The tiny “pond” at the big U-turn on the Flat Mountain trail that feeds Pond Brook was way, way, way over its banks due to the recent rain. When I was up here fishing a few weeks ago there were two logs that made crossing the little outlet very easy. Those logs were washed away and there was knee-deep water overflowing into the marshy area beyond. We went into the marshy area and were able to carefully pick our way from squishy spot to squishy spot, but beware that more than once I found identical looking squishy spots where one supported my weight while my hiking pole sunk more than halfway down in the other. Of course, if you’ve got a towel, the easiest thing to do is just to take off your boots, roll up your pants, and wade across.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails are in pretty good shape though the Bennett Street trail just before it intersects the Flat Mountain Pond trail gets hard to follow along the side stream. It’s easy to get off track here and could use some updated blazing.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Met one other dog on the trail. Ours seemed to be interested in chasing things and sticking her nose in holes (she’s part hound).
Bugs

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a black “BAKLINE” hat. Carried it out but forgot to leave it at the trailhead so we hung in on the street sign that points to the parking lot.

Comments
Comments: After that nasty river crossing on the way to the Twins last weekend (thanks to the rain) we thought we wouldn’t have any trouble, especially since I was just up here fishing a couple of weeks ago. We were wrong (or, rather *I* was wrong) — see note above…
