A FINE day in the forest, despite the rain. The frantic cadence of my wind shield wipers did little to lift my spirits on the way to the trailhead. A day that separted the sane from certifiable. It only really drizzled for about 20 minutes, then the rest was residual from the trees. Both trails are in fine shape and still pretty ripe for speed on the ascent, though the descent needs a little more care then free wheelin' in 5th gear. COMMANDING views of the inside of a cloud, though we did steal a spectacular partial undercast, split by the spine of the Carter-Moriah Range. Simply breathtaking. Mud was mostly avoidable but some spots require gazelle like agility to stay dry (or possibly being taller than 5'3 to reach). Ballerina Bill earned his new trailname today by continually performing some piroutte like moves to get him some of the ledges, though he declined to try fouettés. Next time! |
