Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room in the lot off Passaconaway Road. On good weekend days this lot fills fast. Road parking must be off pavement to allow traffic to pass safely.

Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Dry Brook crossing is bridged. No other significant crossings
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail in great condition. There are three trail relocations on the lower section of trail that was itself a relocation many years ago when the trailhead was moved westward. The longest relocation by-passes a stretch of the original path just above the former junction with the trail coming up from the new trailhead created back many years ago. The newest relocation is marked by pink/orange flagging. Watch out for some small stumps on the pathway that may trip one up. There are lots of new water bars to control erosion. The cairns leading north off Middle Moat are rather small. Trail has no difficult obstructions. There is one 12" diameter slanted across the trail that is still easy to step over at the lowest end.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs.

Bugs: None

Comments
Comments: The trail was mostly dry including the ledges. The ledges may be difficult when wet or icy. Great views at the summits and many spots along the ridge. Unfortunately, the Presidential Range remained in the clouds today. Most of the other peaks were visible today. Nice forest in the col between Middle Moat and the Red Ridge trail junction. The sign at the Red Ridge and Moat Mountain trail junction reads Dugway Road that is now Passaconaway Road.
Lots of fall foliage color in the mid to high elevations especially the maples.
Many hikers out today on this popular ridge. Please note that an out and back hike to Moat Mountain from Passaconaway Road involves a 3,950 elevation gain that exceeds that of many 4K hikes. If a car is spotted one can traverse the ridge with somewhat less elevation gain.
