| Water Crossing Notes: |
Only water crossing was right at the beginning of the Jewel Link Trail, right after crossing the Cog rail platform. The water level was high, and rushing. Several others were leaping across, and hoping for the best. No way was Coop crossing this, so we (Keith from RI & I) decided to proceed further up and bushwhacked to the Jewel link trail. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in great shape, no major issues. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Coop had a grand time as usual, once beyond that first water crossing. Other than that, the Jewel trail is pretty easy for most dogs. The rock hopping above treeline may be more difficult for some dogs. There was little water along the Jewel trail, except at the first few early water crossings. But, once above tree-line and along the Gulfside (from Jewel to Mt Jefferson loop) there was some fresh running water on the trail that was great for quenching any doggies thirst. Met several other doggies out having fun today. |

Great day to decide to bag Jefferson again under mostly blue skies with a few clouds. Winds were minimal, but picked up to nice breezes on the way down. Trails was mostly dry with a few scattered wet sections and running water; great for dogs. Was joined by Keith from RI up to the Gulfside trail, where I joined a NOBO hiker from WI. Passed by many hikers doing a south bound traverse coming off the summit. Saw at least on woman complete her 48 on Jefferson!!! Reversed direction and hiked out down the Jewel with another hiker from RI. Great chatting with everyone along the trail. It is great to meet so many others sharing the experience of hiking up to breathtaking views that seemed to go on forever. |
