Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Lots of them, but water levels are low and none were an issue. The initial crossing of Dry River at the bottom of Mt. Clinton Trail does take some care to follow as the river is very wide here. Follow cairns across the stony outwash in the middle of the river.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Numerous blowdowns all along these trails, but most of them are easy stepovers with only a few requiring some minor gymnastics. Not unexpected for wilderness trails. Huge kudos to Bill and Rachel for adopting Dry River Trail. Their hard work is already apparent. Decaying bog bridges and wood water bars on the trails up and down the ridge.

Comments: Well, this is certainly the long way to the hut. 😉

I walked out DRT for a little over 5 mi., following the old railroad grade and the numerous short and steep relocations. Mostly damp with just a little mud. Just before the Mt. Eisenhower Trail junction I met a hiker who warned me that a territorial moose was hanging around Dry River Shelter #3.

Both the short section of MET I was on as well as most of DRC were brushy in places with LOTS of mud. I managed to dunk both boots separately. At least I'm consistent.

Mt. Clinton Trail was also very wet and muddy with lots of erosion. Maybe it was because it was later in the day, but I found the descent somewhat tedious as I couldn't get a pace going with all of the obstructions (blowdowns, mud, rough footing).

All in all though, a fantastic day out here in a place that feels like a million miles away from everything.
