| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Small dirt parking lot just off Whiteface Intervale Road. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Crossing of Whiteface River easy on rocks. In the past I have seen this river too high to cross. The crossing is by the support for a former bridge. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Flat Mtn Pond Trail and Rollins Trail are in good condition. The McCrillis Trail is in rougher condition (wilderness area path). |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
One couple at the summit of Mt Whiteface did not want to try a get their large dog back down the Blueberry Ledge Trail's steep areas so they decided to descend via Rollins and Dicey's Mill trails. |
|
| Bugs: |
A few flying pests in the lower elevation hardwood forest. |

| Comments: |
The McCrillis Trail is unblazed except at the very beginning and on the ledges near the top. The lower section of the McCrillis Trail is difficult to distinguish from the forest floor as the leaf litter blends in with the surroundings. The mid section of the McCrillis Trail is constricted in some spots from the understory including saplings, raspberry and fern growth intruding the pathway. In the higher elevation steep sections of the McCrillis Trail have many blow downs (hop overs, duck unders, and walk arounds). There are signs of trail maintenance such as cleared drainage ditches and sawed fallen trees however this lightly used trail is likely not the highest priority in the area. There is a nice outlook ledge on the McCrillis Trail which permits a good view of Whiteface's cliffs. Nearby were blueberries.
If you are peak bagging make sure to follow the Rollins Trail north from the open south ledges to the true summit marked by a small rock pile. |
