Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Just a few small brooks heading down the Ranger Trail not an issue at all.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Just a few small blow downs. There is a small spruce crossing the Lambert trail about .5 miles from the trailhead that should be attended to.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Brady was the only dog on the trail. He had a great time meeting all the peeps. I'd say it's easily hikable for seasoned hiking dogs but note that there is very little water on the Lambert Ridge Trail so please bring extra for your pup.
Bugs
Bugs: Nary a one!

Comments
Comments: Great hike.
Please note that on the steep section of Smarts Mountain proper there are long stretches with wet slabs. These can be avoided by side trails but be careful!
This is true for both the Lambert Ridge Trail and Ranger Trail.
Many folks go up the steeper Lamberts Trail for the occasional views and down the mellower but viewless Ranger Trail.
Great views from the fire tower!
