Peaks Rogers Ledge, NH
Trails
Trails: Devil’s Hopyard Trail, Kilkenny Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Wednesday, September 1, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Beautiful South Pond Recreation Area. No fee if you tell them you are hiking. Only one other car parked in the hiker area and one carload of people using the pond. Spoke to someone who lives nearby. He said even in the middle of summer there are very few people. Called it a “hidden gem!”
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy crossing of Cold Stream on Kilkenny Ridge Trail
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Significant mud in spots of Kilkenny Ridge Trail. Also a few blowdowns but easy to get over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn’t see any and believe Kilkenny Ridge to Rogers Ledge would be easy for a dog. Wouldn’t take a dog on the slippery boulders on Devil’s Hopyard Trail but that’s just my opinion.
Bugs
Bugs: None until back at the parking lot at about 5:30 where there were lots of small whiteflies.

Comments
Comments: First half of Devil’s Hopyard after it turns off of Kilkenny Ridge Trail is easy. Second half is a lot of slippery boulders. Huge cliff walls and a stream you can hear but not see. Kilkenny Ridge to Rogers Ledge is the easiest 52WAV hike I’ve done yet (it was 42/52). Only 1850’ elevation gain over 4.1 miles. Significant mud in part of the trail and a few areas of overgrown brush but trail is easy to follow. Only real climbing was toward the end of the hike approaching Rogers Ledge. The trail comes into a large clearing with several paths out to the Ledge. Beautiful views over to the Presidential Range and Pilot Range. Great view of The Horn and The Bulge as well. South Pond is beautiful and quiet. Nice place to finish a hike. Thankfully this was the first day in awhile that wasn’t incredibly humid. This would be a great hike on a humid day given the total shade, easy, slow elevation gain, and finishing at a quiet pond with a nice big beach area!
