Trails: Lincoln Woods Trail, Black Pond Trail, herd path, Lincoln Brook Trail, Owl's Head Path
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, August 29, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No issues. Arrived at Lincoln Woods trailhead a little before 9am and didn't have any trouble parking. Plenty of open spots. Some cars were still parked along the Kanc (probably overnighters). Lot still wasn't full on our return in the afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Heard from others that the two major crossings were fairly easy to rock hop, though we took the bushwhack. The one other large crossing was easy to rock hop.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There's one small bridge on the Black Pond Trail that was in rough shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Only saw one pup today.
Bugs
Bugs: Nothing biting and didn't really notice any. The one thing of note here was the large hive we noticed on a birch tree coming back via Black Pond bushwhack. It seemed to be active, but was about 7-8ft up off the ground and we were able to walk by with no issues.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a hot pink tank top hanging on a tree off Owl's Head Path. It was there on our ascent and descent. Decided to take it out with us on our descent and left it at the ranger station.

Comments
Comments: The cloudy day was perfect for Owl's Head. Counted upwards of 20 people out hiking Owl's Head, including one dog. No issues at all following the Black Pond bushwhack - it's a pretty well tracked out herd path. Rocks and roots were slippery on the slide from a light rain that came down for a brief period. A good amount of mud on Lincoln Brook Trail.

As others have noted in previous reports, the summit cairn that was on Owl's Head has been removed.
