Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The nine crossings on Downes where low so the water levels where not the challenge, it was the slick rocks from the humidity. Poles for the win!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The only thing of note along this 13.5 mile traverse was one 12"+ tree that is known. It's 6' high so no issues for summer use.

Comments: A fine day in the forest - bring me to 80.0% grid (Pass)! The only 'drip drip drip' on the day was from my brow, I was sweating more profusely than a woman of ill repute in a house of worship. Even with Downes Brook adjacent to us, it offered no relief. This was my first time on DBT in the summer, and my track from the winter varies greatly - ha! The footing and grade are superb until about 0.1 from the junction of Kate Sleeper, where it is obviously wet and mossy. We did not encounter another hiker until about 0.5 from Rollins - we kept remarking about this and thought that either we had died or the highway was shut down. Finally a trail runner woke us from our wandering minds. Or did he? This very well could be a dream too... We ran into a pair of hikers who said they had run into a bear along the DMT (The western version of the summit ascent). We unfortunately did not see him. Ran into a familiar face around Pass Cutoff and enjoyed some lively trail banter. We got out just as the rain picked up. Thankfully there was enough cover under the trees for a celebratory beer!
