Comments
Comments: Another way to access Mt. Tremont, if you're not slow. We went to Owl's Cliff. Rob Brook Road is a lovely, gated forest service road off of Bear Notch Road. Several xc ski trails intersect it, Brunel Trail will be clearly marked. The road passes through lovely forests and has a gentle grade. Brunel Trail is gradual at first, but then has some very steep sections. When we finally got to the relatively flat area that takes you to the spur, the dark clouds had rolled in and there was rain for about 15 minutes. This was right before we descended to the cliff, so we missed the views by about 10 minutes - it was fogged in. But we waited and much of the fog disappeared, so we did have some views. There is a sign right before the cliff telling about the 1963 fire. Decided not to go on to Mt. Tremont; it was late, weather was iffy, and I wasn't sure of trail conditions between the Cliff and Tremont. Very quiet hike, the only people we saw were two cyclists.

One confusing thing - mileage is not always consistent on signs (mainly the trail between Tremont and the Cliff).t
