Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: It's getting to late August, and the kids are back in school. Parking was tight, but available at The Basin without any undue gymnastics.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: As of the other day, the crossings were nominal. Tropical Storm Fred is due to give us a taste of the lash, and the area should see 1-2 inches of rain in a handful of hours. So for the next few days, I'd be careful with any water crossings in the Whites, as brooks, rivers, and drainages will no doubt be breaking their banks. Remember, just a few inches of swiftly moving water is enough to sweep you off your feet, and down to whatever mayhem lies beyond.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail was, for the most part, in good shape. A couple of easily managed blow-downs here and there. On the AT, all was well, although a few bog boards could use replacing at some point.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Nominal. Easily handled with bug juice. Really, they weren't any kind of nuisance at all. At the ponds, there were some dragonflies flying about, which was nice.

Comments
Comments: Plantar fasciitis has kept me off the "big" trails for a couple months now, which has been frustrating to say the least. (Pro tip: Take care of your feet!) Yesterday's outing was just what the doctor ordered. The water level at Lonesome Lake was a bit on the low side, and there were fewer wildflowers than I'd have liked. But wow, the mosses. It's a hard bit of hiking, and the views aren't long by any stretch of the imagination but for a tiny sliver out to Franconia Ridge. Don't go for the views outward. There's solitude to be found on Kinsman Pond trail.
