 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Well, it has finally happened. On your way down you see a blow down that you don't remember from the way up. I told Prema it fell while we were further along the trail. It is a very spiky evergreen (hemlock, I think). It's a few hundred feet from the small stream.
Despite the logging areas, I found this easy to follow, especially due to a few strategically placed signs. Thanks! Sporadic blazing, but the trail is easy to follow for the most part. A few areas at the edge of the huge open area could use some brushing. Again, thanks. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Should be fine. Watch the drop off at the viewpoint right before the fire tower. Also, a lot of this is grassy, so watch for ticks (we had none, so far...). |
|
 | Bugs: |
First quarter mile or so had a lot of mosquitoes. Rest of hike was fine. |

Nice walk along forest roads. Variety of woods. Many beautiful ferny areas. Recent logging operations have created great views of the Kinsmans and Franconia. The open areas also have a lot more sunlight, so there were blueberries, a few blackberries, and more raspberries. Right after the fire tower remains, we took the Yellow Path into the Cooley-Jericho Community Forest. Followed it until its junction with the Red Trail. Want to return to check out the rest of their property and trails. There were no views here as the word is commonly understood, but it is a gorgeous and diverse forest. Didn't see anyone; I think the main reasons people take the Jericho Road Trail are Fire Tower List or tracing (formerly known as redlining). It's a nice half day hike, glad we did it (and we did it because Weeks State Park was fogged in and it was on our way home!). |
