| Water Crossing Notes: |
Brooks across Tunnel Brook trail easy to cross but watch out for slippery rocks with a dark slime surface. Brook crossing near the bottom of the Benton Trail is easy to cross as water level is low. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Three trees across the Tunnel Brook south of the ponds pose no real difficulties. One fir tree down across the Benton Trail. Limbs have been cut so it isn't difficult to go over the tree. The trail is flooded out by the middle pond on Tunnel Brook trail however there is an easy detour through open forest on adjecent higher ground. |

| Comments: |
The use of the Tunnel Brook trail made for a nice loop trip past the ponds in the Tunnel and over Moosilauke South Peak and Mt Moosilauke. The loop required walking short sections of road (Long Pond Road, High Street, and Tunnel Brook Road).
At the start of the trail there is a sign reading 700A (fire road designation). Very quickly the Tunnel Brook trail diverts right (hiker symbol sign). The trail manages to remain on dry ground most of the time even as it winds through the ponds between Mt Moosilauke and Mt Clough. At the first fire pit the trail bears right and soon a blue flag marks the trail location. The trail also bears to the right after second fire pit and soon is inundated with water. The water can be avoided by a short diversion through open forest on higher ground. Some of the small brook crossings south of the ponds have rocks covered with a slick dark slime. At the end of Tunnel Brook trail turn left on Long Pond Road (gravel)and then turn left on to High street (paved). The Glencliff trail will leave High Street on the right. Glencliff trail, Mt Moosilauke Carriage Road, and the Benton trail are all in good condition. The Dartmouth Outing Club has a summit steward on the summit. |
