Comments
Comments: Nice cool and sunny day perfect for North Country hiking. Beyond the 4 way junction(about 1/2 mile in) is where the relentless up starts. It is steep in some spots and moderate in others. There are also somewhat level spots. Though very short these spots will give you a break from the relentless up. The clearing is quite overgrown but the trail(bear to the right after the remnants of old cabin)though narrow is very easy to follow. As you approach the summit after the clearing the trail levels off right before the blowdowns. One little up from there and you are at a nice open ledge area. While the climb up is relentless, the views from the ledge area are relentless. You see mountain range after mountain range. Quite spectacular. I normally spend no more than 45 minutes at a summit(how long can you keep staring at the same thing) but in this case I spent almost an hour and a half at the ledges. That's how spectacular the views are. The trickiest part of the hike was coming down the steep area before the 4 way junction. There are lots of wet leaves and small rocks making for slippery conditions. Overall a great doable hike. Took me an hour and half to go up and an hour to come down. Not bad for a 73 year old man.
